What is the difference between a process and a thread?

Answer

Process: independent program with own memory space, heavyweight, isolated, IPC needed for communication. Thread: lightweight unit within process, shares memory/resources, faster creation/switching, less overhead. Multiple threads in one process. Process = house, thread = room.
